EverLed beam question

BrightGuy Seems to sell the EverLed in both the
white: side emitter and highdome.
Which one produces the best beam in a Mag reflector?
I assume it would be the side emitter.
What is the best application for the Highdome?

Thanks,

I think the high dome would produce better beam quality?

I know I have side emitter EverLEDs, and the beam quality is bad--I had to take other steps to improve beam.

The side emitter will focus a larger fraction of the Luxeon's output into the hotspot, resulting in less sidespill. The quality of the beam will vary a lot depending on which flashlight you put it into. I suspect that the HD EverLED will give better overall results (smoothness, balance of throw and spill) with a Mag reflector, but my experience is only with the side emitter.

Do you want a nice flood or a tight throw?

Long throw is not that important, but I want
a hot spot with moderate flood.

I have tried both the side emitter and the lambertian EverLeds in my 3D Mag. The side emitter is more flood with bulb-like artifacts in the beam. The lambertian has a nice hotspot with very little side spill. Using a UCL/LDF lens from FlashlightLens.com along with the lambertian results in a larger hotspot but much better sidespill. This is what I'm currently using in my house/garage/attic light and I think it's the best compromise between throw and flood. YMMV.

The side emitter has a beam very similar to the one you get with the stock bulb, except it will run much longer and proabably brighter (depending on your starting point).

The hi-dome will concentrate the beam in the hot spot, unless you do something to de-focus it or diffuse it. The hi-dome has a built in lens that sends a lot (but not all) of it's light straight out.

I quess that the highdome sounds
the best for my needs.
