IR light for night photography

I'm looking at the Sony IR light for night photography & probably trying to DIY an IR battery-power using 5mm LEDs but not sure whether is it possible & what's the spec (how many nm how many mcd) I need to look for? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif how many units will be needed to have an effective 10-20m range?

IIRC the LED wavelength is 880nm. Most IR LEDs are 970nm wich won't work well for the Night shot. For raw power, I would say 50LED's would give you good output. Look for nm's between 850 and 880nm. These will work best.
