I was just thinking tonight that a 2-AA adaptor would be nice for my Q-III.

Tell what happens please.

Thanks,

yes. I am thinking to make 2-AA adpater unless the run time is shorter than 1 hour.

i mean...

run time when using the stock driver of Q-III (zetex IC) from 2AA (Alkaline or NiMh) or CR123A.

With 2500 mAh Nimh AA cells, I would guess about twice the runtime of a single CR123 with a Q3 circuit. A good idea if it can be done elegantly.

2x 2500mah AA NIMH store 6.25Whr, compared to 4.5Whr for a CR123A. On theoretical capcity, AAs should give 40% more runtime. However, NIMH hold up better under load so overall runtime may be better.

Silverfox found that under 1 amp loads, the best CR123 batteries came in around 3.1 Whr, quite a bit less than 4.5 Whr. They approach 4.5 Whr more closely under a 0.5 amp load, but not many of our favorite lights are that parsimonius!

Of course this is a good idea! I recently gave up on finding a black Eco Tube for my Micra which I wanted to buy so badly. I am running out of 123s so its become a problem. 2AAs would have more capacity anyway than 1 123 I think. So if you do make this, it would be quite a hit. Good luck!
