SOLD! MINT original TVODRD \'Larry Light\' firefly

SOLD SOLD SOLD! THANKS to all for your bids and interest. I learned a thing or two about auctions. Thanks for all your patience. And thanks Gadgetometry for the win!

For sale: One ORIGINAL TVODRD's Larry light using 123 cell. Larry/TVODRD made these by hand and it gave rise to the 'Firefly' lights. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about the Firefly.) Superb workmanship and absolutely MINT.

A few twists:
1. This comes not only with his original tail which takes a lanyard but can't sit upright. It also comes with a second tail that has flat bottom. This is the ONLY such tail Larry made per our communicaton. I wanted the smallest light possible and so he sent me TWO bodies. Both are included.

2. $360 via a cashier's chedk made out to one of my favorite non-profit organization. You send me a cashier's check made out to this non-profit, I send you the light with two tails, and you get a tax deductible receipt. Depending on your tax bracket, this could drop your actual cost quite a bit.

3. I doubt that anyone would offer more than $360 and possibly some will offer less. But if mutliple people wants this, you may offer more. 24 hours of silence after the final offer above $360 takes the light. Hope this is not too complicated - as it is, none of the $ is coming to me anyway so I hope this community is OK with this.

I get to make a donation, you get a collectible light at a reduced price depending on your tax bracket, and the non-profit gets to use the funds. Win-Win-Win.

Please PM me if you are interested.

The light is BRIGHT and is truly mint and hand made. One tail is even iin the original plastic lear tube that he sent it to me in.

Thanks,
Moses

ps: I really hate selling this light but I hate even more the idea of a great light sitting there when the funds can be used for good work. This is my first ever truly collectible light and remains the smallest truly useful light.

Re: FS: MINT original TVODRD \'Larry Light\' firefl

Why don't you donate it for a CPF Raffle and ask Sasha to donate your portion to a charity? I'm very sure you'll get much more that way, and allow more of us the "chance" of winning a Larry Light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To which non-profits will you be giving away this free money?

I'd say I'd take it, but I'm not sure if that is just an opening bid for $360.

This is a great idea! I believe you'd easily get $360 for your charity, CPF would benefit and lots of people would have a shot at getting it.

I know I'd be buying a serious amount of tickets!

A raffle is the only way to go on a gem like this.

Having seen one of these in person, it's significantly SMALLER than a DSpeck Fire~Fly. I could not believe my eyes. A true gem from the master.

Well, if this auction is continuing, then the next bid has to be higher than my bid of $360, so he's already met that goal. A raffle would bring in a signicantly higher dollar amount.

Knock it off, Jon, you got one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif I chased down the link to the original stink.
Mo, you should probably run things through Sasha to maximize the contribution.

Re: FS: MINT original TVODRD \'Larry Light\' firefl

Wow, all this interest in just a couple of hours. THANKS guys.

Thanks for the raffle suggestion. However, I do not believe that I ought to do it as:
1. I already stated the terms and should keep my word. A raffle would hurt the person making the highest offer.
2. I do not have the time/energy/expertise to work with a raffle.
3. I want to maximize the funds in the easiest way. This seem to be the easiest.
4. As to helping CPF, I did contact CPF webmaster earlier today to make a donation.

Thanks for the many who already responded privately. I am truly gratified by your generosity. Current highest offer for the non-profit is $680. By the way, I will not divulge who made the highest offer. If they want to reveal himself/herself, they can do it here personally....:) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

By the way, Larry sent me TWO of this. Super generous guy to whom I'll always feel indebted to. (Same with Brock of Jets22 fame.) The first was also sold and donated the same way very early on. I kept this for myself personally but never quite dared to use it. The workmanship is INCREDIBLE, as those of you who have seen this unit can attest.

Blessings,
Moses

One more note. If I knew it would go this high already, I would have taken a nice detailed photo. The light is in my home in the mountains and I'm here at my parents due to the road closures from all the So. CA winter rain/avalances. I'll try to get up in the next couple of days to get the light and two tail pieces for a photo.

Blessings,
Moses

Just in case you change your mind about putting the light in a CPF benefit raffle, you probably can on a technicality since you are not allowed to auction off items in a BST thread. Not that I mind either way, just that you can let yourself of the hook that way /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

$680 though!!!! That really rings into the new thread I just started on Flashlight Collectors.

Re: FS: MINT original TVODRD \'Larry Light\' firefl

Ok... I'm going to let this go to conclusion... as is.

This is a one-time deal guys. Please do not start "auctions" like this anymore. The reasons for this are many. I won't go into all of them as I'm sure you all are intelligent enough to understand. It is NOT that I have anything against fund raisers for charities, etc but if everyone decides they want to do something like this, we have a HUGE mess on our (read: *MY*) hands. I just don't wanna go there.

So carry on.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: FS: MINT original TVODRD \'Larry Light\' firefl

Wow too Sasha, THANKS. As communicated to you and B@rt, the fault is COMPLETELY mine for not keeping up with posting rules. Won't happen again and thanks for your generosity.

The high bidder has been kind enough to allow me to extend this from the starting point when this tread is unlocked and I can post more info. So, it restarts now.

OK, a bit more about this light's 'historical context' for you collectors:

Having joined CPF in its earlier days, here's my interpretation where this flashlight fits. (Sorry about the 'historical context' bit – sounds like school again doesn't it…:)) This is going by memory and interpretation so feel free to correct any errors.

Surefire is the first professional commercial business producing high-end lights favored by members of this forum. Arc was the 2nd. Simultaneously to Arc, there was the start of individually modded lights that pushed the 'state of the art'. McGizmo is the first to mod the tar out of existing lights and manufacture new goodies based on the Arc and Surefire. He continues to amaze.

However, the race towards smaller and brighter FULL POWERED luxeons, in my mind, started with this light by TVODRD/Larry. Here was a light reduced to as small as possible for the 123 lithium cell, and yet drove the luxeon in regulation at full power. Add to that Larry's workmanship is absolutely world class, (matched but not surpassed), and we have a significant flashlight, which started the whole exploration of 'as small as possible' while pushing high powered light. I believe he made seven total plus one flat tail. Larry then went on to other designs using CR2 etc.

OK, a bit more about this specific light.. It should be in great condition with the one off custom TVODRD non-lanyard tail. However, I just remembered that Larry had one tail that had a small spot on the side (about 2-3mm) where the anodization was missing. This is the tail for with the lanyard attachment – like the other six tails made. I asked for him to send me this tail no problem since he was already sending me the one special tail. This one off tail was made to fulfill my desire for the smallest body possible so Larry left out the lanyard attachment and made it flat bottom (can stand facing up) AND made it tight enough that I would use 123 cells with the label removed to fit. So, he really made this 'as small as possible' to utilize the 123 power source.

Apologies for not having photos: Currently, the light is STILL at my home the mountains and we've been staying with my parents due to the road closures from the So. CA rains. The main road opens only for escort each evening for 3 hours and does not match our work/family schedule.

I received a very generous offer two day ago from someone who already owns one of this so I assume that even with the current state of the art, it is still a worthy light.

Finally, for those who have the time and interest, here is the original tread. There are others but this is the one who started it all: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB14&Number=216786&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1

Current high bid is $680 tax deductible. Buyer can back out as I did not mention the small spot of missing anodization.

Blessings,
Moses /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
