Here is a pic of a light CostCo is selling. It comes in a two pack for $25. I cut out the mid section and TIG welded it back together. Then bored it out to take a 123 batt. Also replaced the switch with a much better one.

I take it after you welded it that you spun it on a lathe to smooth out the weld, remove the crenalted top head thing and give it a smooth finish to match. Nice work!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Sharp eye xrunner!

The body was cut at the groove closest to the head, and about 2.5 inches down from that. Welded and turned on lathe, bored out for larger batt. The switch is a nkk with glowing green led. The led is on when the main led is off.
I should put in a larger resistor (150 ohm now) to lowere current draw. The light came with a nice optic Like a fralen(sp) but with no center hole.

Re: Cut down CostCo 1 watt (nkk switch)

Iron_Man,
Where can we get one of these NKK switches? What size or model should we specify for the Costco?

I don't have a part number, but on the side of the switch I see....M-2 112 TM 6A125VAC

Maybe that will help.

Look at www.digikey.com for a zillion switches.

Did you mod to 2 steps switch? Good job. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Cut down CostCo 1 watt (nkk switch)

Iron_Man,
At digikey.com, the site asks me to specify certain parameters. Can you tell me which you have, and why you chose it?

DPDT or SPDT?

On-Momentary or On-On?

PCP square, snap-in square, or panel mount?

[Green LED illuminated] or [Low-Profile Red LED Illuminated, Clear Cap] or [RED LED illuminated] or [Red/Green LED illuminated] or [Yellow LED illuminated}?

Thanks.

I have had that switch about 12 years in the junk box.

I can post pix and dimensions of it if you want. If I remember right I had to sand the corners of it down so it would fit in the tail cap.

Re: Cut down CostCo 1 watt (nkk switch)

If it's not too much trouble, sure, post a picture or two and dimensions.

Google has told me this much:

SPDT = single pole, double throw
DPDT = double pole, double throw

Not that this distinction illuminates my choices any.

Snap-in Square sounds like the likely physical configuration.

I'll probably go with On-On, only because if I go with On-Momentary, it might mean that it's ONLY a momentary switch. Well, I could get one of each, at $9 each.

As for the LED colors, I assume Red/Green Illuminated means that it's red when it's in one state (ON?), Green when in the other (OFF?). That would be cool.
