I realize that it is a known quirk of the L2 that on low if you listen closely you can hear a high pitched whine from the electronics. My A2 actually does this as well.

I just wanted to confirm with other users that this is simply a quirk and in no way has damaged anybody's lights.

Thanks so much,

Chris

It is a "quirk".

The L2's I've seen (including my own) do this on low but I can't hear anything on high (unless I remove the bezel).

It has in no way damaged anybody's lights.

Neither of my L1's produce noise in either low or high mode. My A2 produces a barely discernible (I have to be holding it right up to my ear) noise in high mode.

1 L1 (old type): no noise either level
1 A2 (new 3-sided body): no noise either level.

I guess I will have to buy an L2 to see if it makes a noise. That's as good a reason as any, right?

<sweeping generalization here, folks>

The hum/buzz/whine/noise typically comes from the electronics board(s). Usually it is "inductor sing". Anything with an electronics board in it -may- make noise.

Usually the noise is just a quirk and is nothing to get worried about.

I wouldn't know as the guy I bought my L1 off of on Ebay has not replied to me regarding shipment of the light yet!

I finally got that L2 I have been wanting.

It has the whine on low, barely audible.

It seems to be comming from the tailcap though. It is loudest there, but I can also hear the noise faintly at the head. When I press the button a certain way, the noise goes away completely (as far as I can hear).
