After I modded the Rebel, I looked over the original LED assembly (had to remove the plastic reflector from the PC board) and it looked like a Nichia NSPW500BS, probably 5600 mCd.
I replaced it with my last 9200 mCd, and it will soon have a new life, just as soon as I figure out a suitable project for it. The new LED still projects the bond wires, it's just brighter, and the spot is a tad larger in diameter.
I plan to do a second Luxeon Star "Rebel" mod, this time with improved LED mounting and heatsinking.
