ARC4 Upgrade to 60 Lumens?

The new HDS puts out 60 lumens, and I'd like to upgrade my ARC4 rather that let it become obsolescent. Does anybody offer a service to upgrade the ARC4 to 45-60 lumens or figured a way to shoehorn the HDS LED/electronics into an ARC4?

I also have a pair of ARC-LS's which should retain their original LED's to preserve their runtime. Has anyone modified the LS's to run longer? I'm thinking of a removable, thin, resistive disk against the battery to lower output and increase runtime. Any of you electrical people know if this possible?

There a couple of 2 stage switches that have been developed by folks here on the CPF. One for twisty and one for the clicky. The one for the twisty can be bought from "The Sandwich Shoppe". It was actually designed for the Fire Fly. However it works fine in the LS as well. The one for the clicky I can't remember who made it. Do a search. It may have been gadget lover. I really don't remember.

What I've done is boost the current to 600 something ma with a T bin LuxIII. Combined this with the 2 stage from the shoppe as mentioned above and this way I get the best of both worlds. Long run time and when I need it super bright.

cheers,
zwf

I've taken the guts of a Lionheart and slapped in into my arc4.
That and a TWOJ emitter makes this light very nice to use.
I don't use the 64 levels, I use the preset 5 levels. Good enough
for me. I don't miss the SOS feature in the stock arc4.

How did you take the guts out of the Arc4? I've been trying to do that but it looks soldlered tight or is it just glue? I wanna change out the emitter.

It took FOREVER to get out. I think something like 50 boil/freeze
cycles. I had to send it to a fellow cpf'er and he finally got it out.
The original circuit is pretty much destroyed however.

I measured the output from a fresh li-ion and it is putting out
about twice that of HDS EDC Ultimate 60. I'm very sure it's putting out
over 100 lumens.

4sevens, would it be possible to post a beamshot of your arc4 against the hds ultimate. i thought the max lumen output of a t-bin luxeon was around 80lumens before losses from reflector, lens, heat, etc..?

Sorry I just returned the HDS Ultimate 60 and I didn't get to
take picture of the beam. (I didn't like the excess knurling)

I did however take a lux reading. 870 lux at 1m on level 1.
My arc4+ mod puts out 1780 lux on a fresh cell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

vdgreg:

On the discrete 5 levels in my mod these are the runtimes:
40 minutes
90 minutes
2 hours 40 minutes
6 hours 10 minutes
94 hours

I set the forced on level 3 so I get a good three hours on the middle
setting, and when i need lots of light I hold the button to lock
into the highest setting /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

1780 lux, very nice!
those are some pretty good runtimes too.
good job 4sevens!

edit: 870 lux was max for the hds ultimate 60? i think NewBie's arc4+ got around 950 lux according to his "arc4 gut mod" thread.
