I just received an M1 infrared illuminator (LED) and it appeared defective. I tried three batteries and no luck.

I called Surefire customer service and they told me to flip the battery over! It's a reverse polarity system! Wham - it works.

Just an FYI for those new M1 buyers who think they got a defective light.

bhusick,
Silly question, but did you 1) get a manual, or 2) discard it?

Or does the manual 1) not mention this, or 2) mention the opposite?

Are the symbols clear now, or now?
Please read the smallest line of letters you can using only your left eye.

from the enclosed manual:

"Remove the tailcap from the flashlight body and install the SF123A battery with the + terminal facing forward."

Which way is forward?

Sorry to jump in with an off topic question, but does the SF M1 perform well?

I've considered purchasing one, but would like to know (from someone who has one) if the M1 is worth nearly $100 before I plunk down my hard-earned ducats.
