quick windows XP question

Is there a way to get the windows xp start menu to scroll downwards (win98 style) instead of across? I have just set up a pc for my dad and due to low vision, he generally runs the screen resolution to 640x480. Windows will not show all the start items as he basically only has two columns.

Yes, here goes:
Right click on the start button and select properties.
In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window select the Start Menu tab.
First thing, you can here select if you want the start menu to look like it did in Win98. To do that select the Classic Start Menu radio button. Otherwise use the Start Menu button.
In either case, select the Customize button.
In the Customize Start Menu window select the Advanced tab.
Scroll down through the Start Menu Items section and you will find Scroll Programs.
Select this box then click Okay all the way back out.
That should do it.
