I'm looking for an idea of what it would take to use red leds for running lights for the trails. ATVs use 12v system so I need a little help with the basics on what to consider and how to run it. I would want them pretty bright so I can see the hanging limbs and vines but not let the deer see the light. Any help will be appreciated, TIA

Link 6 of em in series, 5 if you want added brightness. 4 is the max you can go without burning em out.

Using Luxeon Star LEDs would be good. But they need heatsinking. As to the number of LS (Luxeon Star) needed, I think it would be in the order of 20 at least.

There are manufacturers out there that make industrial direct-replacement LED lights for trailers, construction equipment, etc. Here's some links:

www.grote.com
www.pmlights.com
safetyled.com/safetyled
www.truck-lite.com (which I notified them of bad links on their webapge, and they sent me a nice pen and a multi-tool)

Hope that helps.
