Should run about 2000mAh/1400mAh longer, or about 40% longer. But, probably very few U2s will actually run a full level 6 for more than just a few minutes, though most will probably run brighter than Level 5 for most of that runtime.

ok.thks. is it because of heat that few U2 are actually run the full level 6 ?

I think it may be due to the lower voltage, that the U2 cant maintain a FULL level 6, thoughout the runtime,
All the other levels run flat, at full power,,, level 6 will dim over time.

as for running an hour on a 168S,,, hmmm that seems alittle long, I thought the 168A ran an hour?
and the 18650 for 90 minutes?

ah your right, almost an hour /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
168A should be rather nice then, maybe 65-70 minutes

That 168S runtime referenced above was 53 minutes before the level began to drop fast, so a 168A should run 72 minutes to the same point.

This is in line with my 2300 mAh 18650, which will run about 90 minutes to that point:

Is it possible to see a labelled photo of these batteries with the U2 for reference please?

Cheers!

I saw that you can use the UNPROTECTED 18650 cell in the U2, IF you use level 6. and still be safe
cuz the U2 will shut down before the cell gets too low.

Is this true?
I would think the U2 would just drop a level or two, and draw the battery too low.

What about using it with lower settings?
If I turn it on level 2 for example, will it drain the 18650 too low?

I have U2 on the way, and will be doing alot of testing with Pila 168s and 18650./
but wanted to get the low down on the 18650 use first.

thanks

The U2 won't fire up on any level below about 3.4 volts. This makes it very safe for unprotected Li-ion cells like the 18650.

3.4V! :O

soooo, that means its not getting the full potential out of the cell?
Seems to me if its gonna shut off at 3.4V, that there is still alot of avalible power left in the cell.

Its nice that it is safe though, and I dont have to worry about it.
Sounds like I need to get some more 18650 cells /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Below 3.4 volts there is not a lot of power left in the cell. Not much at all.

If you look at Silverfox's CBA plots in the link above, you'll see that at 1.5 amp draw, the voltage drops very quickly right around 3.4 volts. I doubt there is even 5% of the cell's capacity available between 2.8 and 3.4 volts.

ah i see.
I thought that you could drain them to at last 3V,, and I guess you can, theres just not as much power in that last .4V as there is in the first .4V

I think from a runtime I did on a pila once, that it did seem to drop alot faster the last .5 to 1V.

Thanks for the info, cant wait for the U2 to arrive ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

While waiting go ahead and get setup with the LG2400s. You are gonna love the light with them! Guilt free.

I have 2 pila 168S's now, and one 18650.

Multi charger from AW on the way, and gonna order some more 18650s tonight /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i havent used 123s in a long time, I cant justify the $ in them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've run Pila 168A's in mine and it maintains level 6 for approximately 90 minutes. There have been several posts on CPF that non-Pila's don't drive the U2 level 6, but I have not heard of a true Pila that doesn't. That was why I was willing to pay the extra $ for my Pila's.

If I remember correctly, using rechargeables results in approximately a 15% drop in output. Search for my posts on the U2 and you should be able to find some hard numbers from my testing.
