e-mailed Mag and asked what new products were going to be released in 2002.

The response:
******************

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in Maglite products. There are a few new
Maglite flashlights and accessories planned for release soon. Please
check our web-site for new product information.

Customer Service

Not really sure what that means, but I figured I would share it.

Oh please let them be something new and useful, not just more finishes.

That would be too sad ......
Still, the beauty of the silver 3D, and the black Mag-Charger will be Mr. Maglica's lasting gift to our world - Fact !

Will MagLight be at SHOT'02 ?

I'm hoping that UKE, Pelican, Princeton Tec, etc etc will be there, as well as the lesser [well known] brands.

LOL. A small E2 / Scorpion like Lithium light would be nice, or a super bright, small rechargeable flashlight like the SL Stinger. A re-designed 2AA with a clickie tailcap and xenon lamp would also be nice. Anything would be nice, but not just more finishes!

How about the following new products:

1 - aaa LED that blows away the Solitaire in output. It will include a neck lanyard and pocket clip

2 - AA led that has 3 leds and really bright.

And yes, in all their nifty case colors.

We already have that; the Arc-AAA; if you add a clip from a mechanical pencil, and a nylon shoelace lanyard. Hard to believe Maglite could improve on the near perfect Arc-AAA. (OK, the Arc-LE *is* perfect; I love mine, but a bit spendy.

2 - AA led that has 3 leds and really bright.

Now *this* is a *really great* idea. But not for Maglite; for Arclight! They could get it into production in 6 months (OK, 8,) but it would be *great*! Peter????

And yes, in all their nifty case colors.

When Arclight gets the 3 LED, single AA light into production, I vote for 'standard finish' for initial runs, to keep the cost down.

What you call orange peel is also known as stochastic.

I'd not be surprise if MagLight produced way too many lights, and for the last few decades have been spent messing about with cheap surface treatments...

"Hey Joe! Pull a thousand 3Ds out of that pile and coat them with a fancy winter camo design."

I would not be surprised...

Thanks Al (pretends to originally know what it was called in order to look smarter than he actually is

), I had forgotten the proper name for it.

I forgot to mention that I forget things too.
Didn't I already mention that?

I had to get the 8NX box to check the spelling!

It's from the Greek stokhastikos.
Something that involves a random varible or Chaos. For example;
Stochastic particle dispersion models.
Stochastic error diffusion algorithms.

Other practical uses -
Textured toiletpaper.
A golfball's 336 dimples.
Bowers & Wilkins Flowports.

"Dear Customer,"

Nice to see another company that believes in that personal service!

Seriously though, I hope they come up with something good- even if only an improved reflector on their C and D range- come on guys, how hard would it be for you to facet or "orange-peel" the finish to smooth out that mediocre beam?

LED would be nice too!

Given their rate of product innovation in the past 10 years, I expect that Mag will release an LED light at about the time that incandescent bulbs are no longer made.

Maglite was cool in the 80's and part of the early 90's but has not done much recently. They are really stale. Surefire is on the cutting edge. Brinkmann seems like a company to look at for.

Keep in mind folks that without Mag, Streamlight,SureFire and a lot of the other flashlight companies wouldn't be in business. It's evolution, Maglite helped to further the evolution in flashlights, and I still think the MagCharger is the best full-size Rechargeable out there.

Way to go, dwolf !

And remember that Mag Instrument Inc. is opening a new major-size Production Facility in 2002.
They must be building it for Something ......

Al, how can you say:

"Wish you were here"

on an e-mail ?

Definitely a postcard, AND a few free samples from the SHOT show.
Also, I'll give you the cash, and you could bring me back one of those American *SureLights* you're so fond of ......
