Would appreciate recommendations for best LED/luxeon "pocket rocket" (distance thrower). Would like to stick to AA, AAA, or rechargeable.

You could do an Aleph3 with a rechargable, I think. .
I got an Aleph 3, T bin LuxIII, Wiz2 board at 1000mA on Pila 168s. It sure rocks and throooows no end....
The ubiqitous LionHeart is not far behind in throw and with its small size it really can be called 'pocket rocket'. Also runs on Pilas.

Thanks, guys. Just bought (awaiting ship) a TnC KeyLux AA with a TWOH 3w emitter. Hope it's the answer for me.

I concur with X33. I have an Aleph 3, 2 x 123 cell, U bin at 1000 MA. It shines further than my SF L6.
