Default Nuwai Q3 w/ MiniPro (lots of pics!)

This one's in keeping with the current trend of replacing the drivers in Q3-land. I asked a friend to make me a couple of cans to house a Lambda MiniPro (w/ TX1J) drop-in in a Q3. I'll let the pictures tell the story.

    Thanks for looking,

    Paul

Two piece can so the pill can be dropped in from the top.

The MiniPro in the can. The pedestal brings the Lux up to the level of the original driver.

Side by side to show elevations. I would have put the MiniPro in but the solder blob sticks out the bottom.

What it looks like from the bottom. A nice fit. Blurry pic.

    Step 1. Empty Q3 w/ contact washer.

    Step 2. With thick sleeve.

Step 3. With the battery to keep the MiniPro from sliding through.

Step 4. Drop in the MiniPro.

Step 5. Put in the top Washer.

    Step 6. Install retaining ring.

A view into the battery chamber.

    Powered up w/o the bezel.

    Powered up w/ the bezel.

Beam shot at about 1 ft against a yellow wall.

    Edit: added picture caption text.

I purchased it off Lambda. He may have some left.
Check here or here or Lambda's MiniPro Kit Web site.

What are the advantages over the stock unit? The beam shot looks about the same to me anyway.

    wmpwi:
Same reflector, so same beam shape. Advantages - MiniPro should be brighter than the stock circuit. It draws an amp from the battery and it is more efficient.

Sorry, I don't have a light meter so I don't have any before/after readings. It's on my birthday list. I just have to give the ordering details to my wife and find a Canadian supplier for a Wavetek Meterman LM631.

I'm interested in a couple if you get around to selling these.
