Default Allergies... what to do about them?

I regularily take pills in the morning, but today I forgot to, and I felt like dying over and over again. At school I was coughing and wheezing and sneezing and rubbing my eyes till they got red like he11. A lot of people seemed to have bad cases today so I cant tell whether my symptoms are because I didnt take the pills, or today is a bad day. I wash my face every time I see a sink and soap, and pollen still somehow gets into my hair, eyes, mouth . Even as I type this, my eyes are red, and my face is really swollen. Can anyone recommend a subscription medicine or something?

no guaranteed fix I had to try many different one until I found one that worked for me.

Once I gave away our cats my allergies are now restricted to about 12 days a year. 6 days in April and 6 days in October.

the best thing to do for everybody is to have the allergy testing done and get allergy drops for what you are allergic to.

Wow that bad huh? I had allergeies as a kid and was on shots for a few years. But I grew out of them and now nothing bothers me but one guys house who has 4 cats and the house is moldy, old, and dirty as heck. But anyone who goes in there can't stand it...

Yeah if you do live around an irritant it can make you more suseptible to other irratants. Like when I go over to that guys house I'll start sneezing and have a wheezing breathing, then sneeze for the next whole day over anything!! And he wonders why he is on all these allergie medications and has no energy all the time! I would too if I lived there. The carpet is probably close to 100 years old and no longer white but a dark gray and cat fecees and pee is everywhere. The ceilings are black from water dripping down and the basment has clothes on the floor that if you pick up they fall apart from decay/moisture. The house should be shut down by the EPA!!! You might grow out of them. My mom says she never had allergies and (denies she has them now) but is always complaining about hayfever and stuff I don't notice now. I used to be allergic to everything but hydrocarbons as a kid.

Check with your doctor for his ideas on the best medication-Zyrtec at 10mg works great for me.

Mags: Zytec is what I am using now. but your body chemistry might change and so you might need something else.

If yours are more than the occasional irritation (lasting 2 weeks out of the year insteadof 365) then I suggest a little experimentation as long as you follow the rules. If you have them every day then get the testing done and get the custom oral drops (better than shots IMO)

No, except for IMO benedryl which will nock you on your butt, so it is only worth taking at night. that the stuff I take at night only when I have an attack. But, since I got rid of my source of irritation a box of 24 benydryl will last for 2 years or expire before I finish it.

Well the allergies only occur during the spring. So the whole year I dread this season. Even right now, my eyes are red, but strangely, they dont itch. theyve been that way for a few hours now... Im quite worried though. they dont feel weird at all, and they are red anyway... Does anyone know why?

Try using Visine eye drops. They even make special ones for allergies, so try them. Those should do something to help out your eyes.

    Default Get infected with worms...seriously

I recently saw a documentary on human parasites and they had several examples of where being infected with (benign) intestinal worms almost completely abolished allergies (eg hayfever) and other immune disorders. Apparently the worms secrete something which reduces the immune response of the mucosal membrane (such as nose and intestines).

One of the points of the documentary was that the increase in disorders such as asthma and bad hayfever in western societies correlates well with the almost complete abolition of parasitic worms.

Something to consider if all else fails Mags

I just rememebered a trick I used to use when things were absolutely unbareable:

I stuffed facial tissue or cotton into my nose. It really helped almost immediately. I guess what was happening was that it prevented the allergens from getting into the sinus areas behind my eyes.

It might work for you too.

My brother's allergies were really bad. He took a 2-3 year-long treatment with drops every day, and he's been basically allergy-free since age 8.

I take over-the-counter Claritin (-D when I get a stuffy nose too). It's getting cheaper, and you don't need a prescription.

Wow thanks for the tips! This is really important for me since I sometimes leave school myself due to my symptoms... Chucker, I will have to try that one! So how should I prevent pollen from getting into my throat?

BTW: Is the nose a more crucial (right word?) entrance for pollen than the mouth?

Allergies are different for everybody. For me, it was the nose. When I stumbled on to this remedy, it puzzled me why it worked for my eyes too. After all, my eyes were still exposed to the allergens from the outside. Regardless, my eyes stopped itching and burning. I don't remember if it helped my throat. I guess the real problem for me was in the sinus cavities rather than the surface of the eye.

I hope you get some relief. I know how awful allergies are.

Dang, you guys get it easy. At least you don't have (many) food allergies like me. Severely allergic to eggs, nuts, soy, dairy, and seafood. And then all these spring alleries. And I also have asthma. Yeah, it sucks, but I've learned to live with it.

At about age 28, I started having migraine headaches. The allergy specialist suggested that it might be a food allergy. He gave me a list of known offenders, and gave me instructions on how to identify the culprits.

My problem turned out to be corn products. Do you realize that corn oil, starch, syrup, etc. is in about everything - including chewing gum! Milk is the most common food allergy.

I frequently get headaches when the weather changes. Like when it suddenly starts raining or something like that, I almost go into a coma and cant do much at all. Ive left school many times due to this. My parents say its migraine, but Im not too sure.

some problems are caused by not properly replenishing your intestinal flora after taking strong antibiotics. Something as simple as eating yogurt or drinking buttermilk with acidophilus in it can prevent or help reverse the problems associated with it. I heard of someone their intestinal track stopped working... and the first thing I thought of was.... antibiotics... and the cure was... acidophilus, doctor prescribed... go figure.
