I've been talking over a mod like this with member 3rd Shift. I originally wanted to do a 4D QUAD setup. I don't want to fiddle with resistors (unless absolutely necessarry).

He suggested a 3D with four TWOJ binned LuxIII's direc drive using 11,000mah NiMH cells. The LED's would be wired in parallel. How does this sound? Is there any problem with the DD LuxIII's.

Nope.

I have a tri-Lux III setup in a 4D Mag. I had member b2eze do a copper sink for me and I put that in a copper mag. I call it my coppertop /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif. I used NX05 optics so it provides a nice center with lots of flood.

Great name /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

I guess I'll go for this then and hope for the best. Now I just need to get the stuff.

I recently did a QUAD Lux III with Vf matched TWOJ's
and SO20xa's in a mag 2c with two 18650 li-ion cells
in parallel DD and a charger circuit built in. (you just
plug in a walwart and it charges in 5 hours)

The two 18650's give about 4800mah to the four
emitters - each getting about 600ma. It runs for a good
2+ hours.

I have some picts here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

4sevens, what do you mean by vf matched?

Who did you get your heatsink from? I'm waiting for modamag to have some more QUAD heatsinks availbale.

Awesome mod by the way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The HID isn't too bad either.

Here's my tri-Lux III "Copper Top".

One thing I like about this light, which you don't see too often in the tri/quad lux lights is the lack of wiring visible from the front. After seeing so many other people's lights where you see all the wiring and epoxy they used, I thought making it look clean was the way to go. The copper heatsink is by b2eze - he customized it with my desire to not show any wires.

What do you think?

Very nice, clean Jammy.

Take that sink through a sequence of sanding ending up at a Flitz or compound buffing and you'd have a truly beautiful Mag-head.

I forget who I got it from... I had two CPF selling them at the time.
I bought the one that was milled for perfect mounting.

The HID is bright but I can't toss it around like I do the 2c.
Also, I can flash the 2c for quick on-off - no way with the HID.

I'm considering building a batch sometime for folks as I've been
getting a flood of requests for these. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
