Hi,

I'm thinking of swapping the leds of my X5 to new brighter leds such as MJleds or 50mcd leds.
Is it possible to disassemble the head and exchange the leds?
Has anyone done that before?

Thank you.

It is possible to freeze the head out of the X5 series lights. Don't know about replacing the LEDs, though. .

I recently took apart my X5 with similar thoughts in mind, especially
since one of the existing LEDs is dead somehow. While the freezing
technique worked fine to remove the head, it also removed the rubber
tailcap cover in a way I don't think is repairable (to original levels
of water-tightness.) In addition, the head seems to be a single solid
unit, with LEDs, circuit board, and metal all firmly glued together, and
it doesn't look to me like it's going to be possible to replace the LEDs
in the existing head. On the other hand, it seems like a replacement
head would not be too hard to machine...

BillW, thanks for the info.

Hmm, then let's hope Inova to make X5 with new LEDs.
IMHO, X5 is the best battery drainer. Dead cells in xenon light can produce enough light to walk around at home, and still run very long. New leds will do that much better with same runtime.

IIRC sometime back a CPFer had to drill thru the head to remove the whole darn bezel... Probably not worth the trouble. He did replace the 5 Leds with a Luxeon though, which was pretty nice, I must say...

No need to drill the head. Simply fill the light with water and pop it in the freezer. There's a couple of threads describing this process.

Does any one have step by step instructions? Where is the best place to buy better leds?

I converted one to UV a couple years ago. I cut it apart in a lathe before the "freeze" trick was posted. The "guts" were potted, but I managed to save the circuit board, which spaces/locates the LED's, and had to replace the resistors. It's not an easy mod!!!!! and I wouldn't attempt "directions!"

Once you open the X5T, how do you get new 5mm leds in it?
Do you need a new circuit board?
What are the best parts to buy?
Where do you get the parts?
How much are the parts?
