Just got my E1L in the mail today, as an addition to my L4.
I immediatly popped the KL4 onto my 1 cell body with a R123.
Can my new KL1 operate on my 2 celled L4 body with the Pila or does the KL1 need a single cell?
What are my max/min voltages for the KL1 and KL4?
*edited for spelling

So if I purchase another E1L or E1E O can have full power of a KL4 and a KL1 both on single cell R123's?
Is the runtime greater on a KL1 with 2 cells? I am confused and excited!

If you swap the KL4 on to the 1 cell body+ R123, you get full power. (65 lumens)

the KL1 will work with, 1-3 CR123s and up to 2 R123s

So am I hearing this right? You can use 2 R123's (protected) in the L4 body with the KL1?

You get over 50% more light by using 2x123s on a KL1 than 1x123. Runtime is also doubled with use of 2x123s than 1x123. Why not just have an E2L with an F04 beamshaper? KL4 in a snap. Perhaps not as bright, but probably an equally useful beam.

Where did you get that? AFAIK KL1 with one cr123a gives you 25 Lumen, two cr123a gives you 30 Lumen.

The runtime of the KL1 on 2 123s is more than twice the runtime of the KL1 on 1 123, and the runtime on 3 123s is more than 3 times the single 123 runtime. There isn't much difference in output between 3, 6 and 9 volts with my first generation KL1.

I could be wrong, but I would check with Surefire before running the 4th generation KL1 on more than 6 volt input.

The old KL1 could run up to 9 volts, not too sure about the new KL1. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif

Well, this could change everything..
My only thought is that Al passed over this thread and I truly believe he would have caught that.. Better safe than sorry, I'll leave it off for now..

Thanks Pyd, sorry I have to keep it short as time is running against me. Check out the MicroFAQ for some of the runtimes on JSB's protected rechargeables.

Pyd,
It looks like you want to run it with 2 R123's in your L4 body, just run it on a pila 168s in the L4 body...Great output and runtime. And definately safe at 3.7volts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This may help.........

Top....EL1/KL1 3rd Gen, McR20 reflector cut down, McES2

Middle....L4/KL1 3RD Gen 17MM reflector, McES2

Bottom....BE3/KL1 4th Gen, McES2

KL13.jpg

KL1Beam.jpg

The KL1 4th Gen is running off 3 Titaniun 123s:

3.25V
3.25V
3.17V

Run it all the time like that...in this shot its been running over 10 minutes and the head is just slightly warm.

Aloha

Remember that there is no low cut off warning on the KL1 4th. gen. so you want to run it of *protected* R123s or Pilas. Otherwise you might ruin the cells by over discharging them.
