Warm White LED

I scored this warm white LED at the hamvention over the weekend. It's the NSPL500S, the first one on the page.

It appears to be made from a blue chip with a yellow phosphor that peaks around 590nm. It's a pleasing warm white and fairly bright.

What's interesting to me is that the phosphor they're using responds brightly to NUV light from a 395nm LED, producing a deep yellowish-orange glow. Most of the white LED phosphors only respond to blue light and produce little or no reaction with NUV excitation. The output curve shows on page 10 of the pdf .
