I actually just finished up my second one of these last night. I used a wood dowel rod, cut to length, exacto knife the front to make the lip, drill out some of the inner material to make room for a booster board. Oh yeah, flatten the 26kmcd led to get a good adj focus. there ya go, BAMM, under $10 including the dorcy AAA converter parts.
I'll try and post some pics later. I did however taks eff readings before potting it. The chip is from the dorcy but the coil I just picked the best of what I had.
IN = 68mA - 1.455v - 98.9mW
OUT= 22mA - 3.200v - 70.4mW
Total Eff - 71.2%
At 22ma the 26K is nicely bright, candle mode still works, I battery to replace, long runtime. AND CHEAP (to make anyways)
