Hmmmm he says...

One light pulls almost 200ma more than the other...

The lower draw was around 650, the upper near 850.

Don't know if it means anything, but the 650ma light has a warmer color than the other too.

Thoughts?

on the same batteries?

my Xm3 clone also drains up to 900 mA on L91
on fresh charged NiMH´s 750mA and after a few sec later -> 800mA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Didn't seem to matter which batteries were in which light.

One is less draw and warmer color, one more and more blueish.

Wish I could figure out how to feed the warmer LED the higher Ma.

My guess, the circuit is voltage boost not current regulated. And the different draws are because of different voltage foward of the leds...
