Hey Larry,

Just checking on your fingers this morning. I hope they are feeling better. I appreciate all the work you are doing...and for free no less. What a guy.

Larry is a true gentleman and a scholar!!

These are not the easiest pieces in the world to make, and doing it out of the goodness of his heart is very typical Larry!!

Thanks!

As for the rest. I think bodies will be complete this week, making the battery cells the only remaining holdup. We were told the first two weeks of June, so we're getting closer!

I must have missed something along the way.

What is the "USL"? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks,

Take a 2D Mag and place it on the dashboard of your car, pointing forwards. Then turn on your high beams.

Imagine that ALL the light is coming from the Mag.

Now, with a USL, you don't have to imagine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(car: approx. 3200 bulb lumens combined from two H4 bulbs. USL: approx. 3600 lumens from a single 100W Osram)

PS: cheers to Larry's fingers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif <-- fingers

Lightchucker,

The USL is the culmination of about 18 months work on the smallest possible, brightest possible, D sized flashlight. It started with Ginseng's "Aurora" and led through several iterations until the production version was arrived at.

It uses essentially a 2D sized Mag Host, and produces about 3000 lumens.

Here is the first part of the Field Test Thread, which now includes parts 2,3, and 4.

Re: The \"I have to make room for the USL\" sale!!

Bill,

Thanks for the link to the thread. From the few posts I read, it looks like you are building something more evil than a laser. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I have heard of a few painful experiences with people who accidentally turn on their LED while carrying it in their pants pocket. If that happened with this thing the guy would look like a "bottle-rocket" going down the street! Very hard to catch!

Everyone talks about how much light it puts out, but I want to know how much "thrust" it has? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wow.gif

The thing about IR heat is that it is instantaneous, you know when this light is on if you are anywhere close to it!

Thrust, what thrust?

It was an exagerated complement referring to your light's apparent power in thrust (rocket thrust), rather than simple light output. I meant well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif
