I just put one in my minimag and its ok, I was wondering if the cost of the LDF lens is worth it to improve beam quality.

A huge difference my opinion says. The stock Ministar-2 has pathetic beam quality that sucks. Putting the LDF lens on eliminates most of the mild to moderate artifacts, and greatly reduces the major artifacts. If you can live with reduced throw, its a great mod my opinion say. Well worth the cost, as I NEVER use Mini-star with stock, I just can't accept the crappy beam.

Reduced throw? Yikes, the thing has like no throw to begin with...Hmmm, maybe I'll try the ol' satin scotch tape trick first...

Any diffusion device will take throw away...but you right, the milder diffusion of the scotch tape will likely have less effect on throw than the full-blown ldf lens.

I still haven't received mine. I'm pretty sure the LDF lens will be excellent for close-up tasks, reading and lighting a room when it's completely dark but I have yet to see the difference! I don't expect much throw with my Minimag. There wasn't much with the stock bulb and it wasn't bright. The Ministar2 is really brighter and I love the semi regulation with decent runtime.

I just received my LDF lens today! And I love it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Some beamshots:

The beam is really smooth and there's almost no artifacts left!
