I am about to fab up something for myself (which I will share with you guys later) and was looking to get it coated. Its a clear coating that lets the base material (steel) shine through. Its pretty thick, so I am assuming its a type of clear powder coat. I am looking to coat about 28' of 3''x3'' steel. Wondering if anyone on CPF knew what the specific name for that coating is and the ballpark price of the process?

You have it right, it is powder coating. It comes in as many colors as paint, including clear. It is a tough coating that is baked onto the metal. It is applied with a spray gun and uses and electrostatic charge to attract the poweder to the metal. The powder "melts" in the oven creating a nice smooth tough coating.
Price depends on size and prepwork.
To find your local powder coaters, check with custom motorcycle and auto shops.
