If memory serves, Peter was reminded of an "arc" (as in weld) when he first spied a LED light. Don't recall it being an acronym for anything. You didn't hear this from me however. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just love hearing that an Arc is getting lots of use!

"Arc" is because the blue-white color of the LED reminded me of arc welding.

If I remember correctly (and I may not), Peter was reminded of the sun when he first saw a white LED, then reminded of the arc from arc welding. The letters in "Arc" don't actually stand for anything - just the word "arc". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My first white LEDs where the Photon wide angles. Remember those? The cool white color reminded me of the brilliant blueish white light of an arc welder. A light so bright that you couldn't stare at it for very long.

I didn't want to call the light, "the welder", so Arc was picked. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you want, it could stand for "A Really Cool" light.

The purpose of the thread is realized. I guess it really has no where else to go. Closed.
