Is my L1 LuxI or LuxIII

I purchased an L1 Lumamax yesterday from a local retailer (GanderMountain). My bezel does not have the newest generation optics present (TIROS style), but does use the small-scallop front end.

The main thing I'd like to know is what generation of Luxeon is on the inside. How do I know that I have the LuxIII version and not the outdated model?

If it's not a LuxIII then I'll have to do something about it.

Thanks for your time.

As far as I know, the old version had lux I high domes and only the new generation with tiros has a lux III.

The SF website is a bit misleading to me. It pictures the older style bezel and optics (NX05?) and the description says that it has a 3watt lux.

If SureFire were using a "TIROS" style optic then it would likely be about 1/2 inch longer.

SureFire use a TIR Optic developed with SAIC.
This is the sort of TIR Optic SureFire use:

The L1 has always been subject to confusion over specs.

The current version of the L1 looks like this:

It features a LuxeonIII LED.

Thanks.

So... This newest generation, in Al's post above, is the only L1 with a LuxIII? Okay. That's the model that I wanted. Next time I'll be looking at the package a little closer before satisfying my spend-lust /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thank you for clarifying that.

I emailed SF CS with this very question and received my reply today. Here it is.

Dear Sir,

There is only one model of L1 we currently make. All of our LED lights use the Luxeon II.

Now what am I supposed to think of that and who am I supposed to believe?

Given the reviews say III and the specs coming with the light say I, then II is at least statistically correct.

I recently got two L1s from BrightGuy. They match the pictures of the allegedly current light and each came with a small removable white paper dot on the barrel.

The SureFire Costomer Service reply is a tpyo - they mean LuxeonIII.

They only make one model of L1. It has a LuxeonIII.

SureFire no longer use the LuxeonI.

X200A - LuxeonIII

KL4 - LuxeonV

No. That is incorrect. The X200A is a LuxeonIII & TIR Optic.
The X200B is a LuxeonV & reflector (although I don't think this is released just yet).

You can see the difference between the X200A (left) and X200B (right)

Typo. That happens I guess. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The circular hotspot surrounded by a slightly off-center square spot should tell me that it is at least a high dome LuxI?

Thanks very much everyone.
