"Did you know that filters do not work very well with LEDs? . . ."
I dunno about that.
I recently got a McLuxIII-PD, which uses a Luxeon III. It works very well with both blue and red filters. The red filter turns it into a great astronomy/night reading light. The blue causes lots of things to flouresce (arrow fletches, etc.) I would say it works at least as well as my incans with filters.
LEDs emit less red light than incans, but I don't see how that is a problem for a light that is meant to preserve night vision.
