I'm looking for reviews of the SureFire U2 Ultra, does anybody know any links?! Is it really 15 lumen brighter then the famous L4 (which also has a 5Watt LED)?
By the way, is that model rather new or did I just miss it a few weeks ago?
Thanks a lot!!!

Here are some good reviews by CPF members:

http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/surefire_u2.htm

For more user-oriented review:

And, welcome to CPF!

Edit: I don't know of anyone on CPF (aside from PK) who would have access to an integrating sphere to check the lumen output of the U2, but I know that others have noted that Surefire is one of the few companies which gives reserved and accurate output levels on all of their lights - so if they say it is more, it's more.

My U2 review

And yes, it is brighter, and the beam is also more collimated, which makes a direct comparison impossible without an IS, like laready mentioned.

Welcome to the Candle Power Forum ........../ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink2.gif

Over the 4th of July weekend I got to play with my new Surefire /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif U2.
The U2 is an outstanding tool while playing in the dark ! The very bright
and very useful combination beam has great throw and good spill. The
multiple level beam is easy to use and very task friendly. I can easily
identify objects out to 150 feet with the high beam. The low beam is
more that enough to navigate and ID stuff inside a dark building and
doesn't destroy your night vision. With six brightness levels, it is indeed
very task friendly. The size, weight, and balance make it very comfortable
to use. A great tail cap clicky switch and momentary on / off. A Great clip
for carrying without a holster. It also runs very well on the Pila 168s
Li-ion rechargeable battery. I noticed that the lens is slightly convex,
this must help with the smooth transition from the tight hot spot out to
the corona. A very well balanced beam. It also comes with a life time
warranty.

A fantastic, well designed, rugged peace of equipment ! ..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif

The U2 will become my over all general use light of choice for that walk
in the woods, or on the beach after dark and any other time while
playing in the dark. A GREAT LIGHT !

This flashlight stuff is definitely intoxicated ....... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy23.gif

Great, thanks to all of you!
I especially liked that there's one review with a runtime plot! I consider a constant light output over at least 30 minutes very important.
Well, the L4's plot (which I wanted to buy till now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) seems a little more constant, but the U2's is not bad, too. Paired with the dimmable light I'll go for the U2 now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
