Is it safe to run a RED one watt Luxeon Star LED, on a single 3 volt SR123A Lithium Battery, sans resistor and regulator? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Is a SR123A the same as a CR123A lithium battery?

I have used a L1 head with a single CR123A lithium battery. I used it on a E1e, but I haven't used it for long runtimes. I've read of others using this same set up. The red L1 head was nice and bright on 1x123.

Yes, the SR123A is the same as the CR123A.

I use the white L1 bezel on one cell, but I tried the red L1 bezel on one cell, and it seems to be too bright. Could be a sign it's being overdriven.

Does anyone know if the red L1 bezel is being overdriven on a single 123A Lithium Battery, sans a regulator or resistor?

Think I read once, that LED's have to be underdriven, if run without a regulator or resistor.

I just did a comparison of a red L1 on high, E1e/KL1 RD, E1e/L1 red head. The E1e/L1 red head was slightly dimmer in the spill portion, but other than that all three seemed to be pretty close in a white wall comparison.

I don't think the L1 red head is over driven on 1x123.

Thanks, I think you have answered my question, with your tests. Should have thought of that myself. This red L1 is very bright on a single 123A cell. Took me by surprise, because the white L1 is so dim on a single 123A cell.

Just put a McE2s tail cap on the L1-BK-RD Bezel and E1L body. Now I've got what I was looking for. Put a Z57 back on my E1L, that the McE2s came off of.

Re: Bare RED 1 watt Luxeon Star with a single SR1

They may be brighter! I have a couple H2GH-bin R/O stars. Lumileds lists H-bin luminous flux as 200-260 Lumens! The G Vf is 2.79-3.03V. They are hellaciously(sp) bright on a 123!
