Thread: Evidence Of Being A Flashaholic ?

Default Evidence Of Being A Flashaholic ?

Would a person who didn't know you have any idea that you are a flashaholic?

    Me?

I have a Surefire E2e clipped to my pocket, an ARC AAA attached to my keychain, and my vehicle has a Surefire sticker on its rear window, so perhaps, an astute observer MAY have an inkling that I'm into quality flashlights.

Do you have any "evidence" on your person or vehicle that might indicate YOU are a FLASHAHOLIC?

I EDC 4 lights as a rule. However not overtly. So maybe not.

Nobody knows. The lights are all concealed carry

Until I start pulling out my keyring..

Besides the other thing is that non-flashaholics don't specifically look out for lights. I could be holding a U2 (without turning it on) and most people wouldn't even notice.

A few months ago I wouldn't notice someone carrying a camera, now I specifically check out what everybody else is using without getting too close. just an example to say, if you've got no interest, likely you wouldn't be looking out for it.

On any given day I have 400 bucks worth of flashlights on me at least, if I have my backpack that figure skyrockets to around 1000...

Yeah I'm hooked, and my car has a Surefire sticker too...lol

Well if anyone was looking, they might notice the U2 in a sheath on my belt, but as KevinL says, it pretty much takes a flashlight aficionado to notice a flashaholic.

Oooh, sure fire sticker - where could I get one of them for myself?

I suppose our interest may be more evident at night - "honey, who's that man walking towards us with five flashlights on?".

A couple of people have asked about the Q-III on my belt. Of course everybody notices when I have the occasion to turn it on and then they say WHAT is THAT?

I think that co-workers can tell because I've always got an LED flashlight on me and I talk about them in such effusive terms.

I have a Light Cannon 100 HID and a Trek 400 EX40 mounted conspicuously on the front of my electric wheelchair, a number of other flashlights attached to the rather heavy keychain on my EDC bag, LED taillights on my wheelchair (red 40-LED arrays above each rear axle and a rainbow array of high-flux LEDs in the center), and I think there's a Color Kinetics bumper sticker on the right rear of my wheelchair, so it's within the realm of possibility that somebody might think I'm a flashlight nut. I also have a Surefire stick on the back of my truck, although whem im in orange county, I think people just assume that I work there or something. Because who would put a flashlight company's sticker on their car!? I don't really have an EDC on myself besides a photon clone. Im still searching for one that will provide enough lumens in a small enough package to carry daily. The CR2 powered customs will probably work, but those are currently too rich for my blood. Imagine losing your car keys, you have to replace the remote which can cost a whole bunch at the dealer, then the keys, and then a $150 light!

I sometimes see people with minimags attached to their belts, not only blue collared types but white collared types. One time at Walmart I even saw someone EDC'n a Streamlight Stinger in a leather holster.

The funny thing is my gf carries a KL4/VG1/R123 in her purse so its with her all the time. I love it when we are with a group of people who don't know I've equipped her. If someone needs a flashlight she always is more than glad to bust it out, and when they have questions I am more than glad to talk their ear off about how the LED, Pyrex, HA, CR123 is superior to other technologies. Short but true flashaholic story:

I had to go along during my patient's transport to another hospital a few nights back.

Riding in the back of the ambulance, I'm bagging my guy and casually talking with the paramedic when I have the chance. I notice the light he has in his pocket. I ask if that's "a Surefire A2 in your pocket or do you just like sirens" Took him a few seconds to pick up on my pathetic attempt at flashlight humor...

We start talking flashlights on the return trip. Unfortunately I can't use the A2 button very well because my forearms are so worn out. I gave him my modded m@g AA with R2 emitter that I had with me to use for a little while.

Once we're back in the hospital, I did get to show him all the lights I had stashed away in my locker, bag and utility belt.

One of the other nurses feigned interest and asked how much one of them cost. Imagine her response when I told her the price

Nice thing was it was a two against one argument in favor of the higher priced "handheld illumination tool."

Total of what I had brought to the table: Sandwiched AA m@g, Surefire L4, Ti-Ni Arc Ls, Arc AAA, supercharged Photon clone and a green glowring.

Then came the "so why do you have all those flashlights with you?..."

I agree with kevinL. It takes one to know one. Ever since I joined, I've noticed every flashlight in every movie and on the street!
the same thing happened when I got into mountain biking. I could usually tell how much a bike would cost from the fork it used and a couple key components! Also when I started drivin, i would check the blind spots and look around the corner when I was not driving, it got really annoying

Come into my house or garage and it's a no-brainer!

Get into my truck and it's fairly clear.

On me, I have a very stock looking Minim*g on my belt that nobody ever looks twice at. That is until I use it!

We went to the Isle of Capri casino last night, and you can bet that I had light with me just in case!!!

I think that many of us show alot of flashaholic "evidence," but most people don't take any notice.

The only times people can tell that I"m a flashaholic, is at work. my desk and shelf have a fair number of flashlights batteries, chargers..ect all over my desk.

During the winter time here I have my Lionheart in sheath on my belt and my standard small lights on my body.

sooo if you didn't work with me or know what was in my sheath you wouldn't know.

btw where do you get a surefire sticker?

I carry a Pelican M6 3W LED in the stock holster on a near-daily basis. Most people seem to assume it's pepper spray, but some ask about it.

Sometimes I carry my relatively generic Ultra-Power 3 when I want something slightly more, uh, casual. Not that the M6 is dressy, but I'm somewhat protective of it, unlike the $30 Ultra-Power. The Ultra-power goes well with jeans

For a while I was carrying both the VIP and LionHeart on my belt, but scaled back to just the LionHeart before getting the M6. The VIP is always in my backpack, so I guess I EDC 2 substantial lights.

The only other light I have on me regularly is an Inova microlight. I'm also fascinated by all the CR2 lights out there for easy poecketability, but sticker shock has kept me back so far.

I don't look for flashlights, but I see maglights on service personnel on a regular basis and other belt-holster lights on random people - but don't tend to recognize those most of the time.

I thought half of being a flashaholic was showing off the lights.

Maybe not as many as on JTICE's avatar but close.
Wait a minute... maybe more lights than that.
    Yeah, more!
