and then 5 years later they spin each other off again because nobody can effectively manage a company that large /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The 80's was all about companies buying each other up and growing huge, the 90's were all about people splitting those companies up, the oughts'oughts are all about them buying each other up again. (those dates a little arbitrary as there was plenty of buying and splitting up in the 80's too)

but don't these people learn anything? This is historically what happens. Better to concentrate on outdoing the other company and spending your extra money on R&D and better distribution channels. Why would you buy up another company and then run it into the ground trying to integrate it with your company.

Guess thats what they teach at those fancy management schools /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

wonder how many thousands of jobs will be lost as a result of this?

bad for the ecomomy, bad for employees, bad for consumer and questionable for shareholders.

look what happened to HP/compaq, betcha shareholders wish that deal never happened..

how these type deals meet with regulatory aproval is beyond me?

looks like the only clear winners are folks putting these type deals together!
