I don't know anything about the light or the seller, but it was this listing that inspired me to start a thread under Cheers and Jeers about eBay sellers who charge outlandish shipping prices, either to lure unsuspecting buyers or to circumvent eBay fees on the purchase price.

The shipping is $10.00 from Hong Kong. It seems reasonable. & $49.95 for the light doesn't sound unreasonable either. It is not an auction, it is a "buy-it-now" so both are fixed prices.

Yeah $10 is reasonable IMHO. When they start to get into the 20's and 30's I get pissed.

I like the looks of the light but I'm always a bit sceptical to lumen ratings.

Let's not get off topic here please. I don't want everyones 2 cents about ebay politics. I'm looking for info on the light. Comparing it to the OMBU X-55 & TM301X-5 because they are all about the same size.

The OMBU, its Nuwai twin, the SureFire L4, and the Likki SL-13 are the current kings of compact, powerful WIDE floods. Is this 5W compact contender a broad flood, like these lights? It would be nice to have such a reasonably priced choice.

I wonder what company makes these? In the Luxman 3watt version they have an 2 AA, 3 AAA, 1 cr123 & 2 cr123 models. In the 5watt it is just the 2 cr123, but he says it can use 3.6v rcr123a without a problem.

Paul,
After further searching on CPF i found that these are actually the "smartfire" brand. CPF member "emilion" sells the 3W 3AAA version on his website. I emailed him & he said he can get the 5W version that the ebay seller calls "luxman" (seems like he might be using a made up name to get your attention)

Re: Luxman aka Smartfire 5 watt on ebay

I just updated the title of the thread to reflect the new info that was found about the light, just in case someone does a CPF search for "smartfire".

Emilion's Workshop began selling this light, listed as "Smartfire 5W 2L," for $36! Emilion provides a beamshot comparing this light with the Surefire KL5 head. The KL5 is somewhat brighter, the Smartfire 5W quite a bit larger.

Emilion lists the brightness at 800 lux and suggests that 3.7V lithium-ion cells be used to improve brightness. I assume that the beamshot was taken with 3.0V primary cells.

800 lux is twice the brightness of my current favorite LED lights, the 19-LED Quake II and 21-LED MEK, each with 23,000 mcd LEDs. Emilion sells 3W LED lights that are cheaper, with higher lux ratings. But the Smartfire appears to throw the proverbial wall of light, placing in the company of the Nuwai TM301X-5 ($68+) / OMBU X-55 ($110+), Nightcutter 60L ($130+), and Likki Lite SL-13 ($75). And I haven't read that any of those can safely use 3.7V cells.

Paul,
Emilion's light is a 5w clone but still very nice. I think i'll order one. I'm just waiting to see what the "special discount" will be here on the TM301X-5 because the Nuwai 5watt is not a clone.
