The HDS U60 is my first superlight, and tonight I decided to run it on the highest setting to check out its runtime before dimming down.

Needless to say, it started to get pretty toasty. Not so hot that I couldn't touch it, but just hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold (I was holding it the entire time because I heard that helps dissipate the heat).

Is heat like this normal on HDS lights (and others of similar lumens)? I just have no basis of comparison /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

Any tiny, super-bright light, is going to warm up quite a bit. I've got a Raw and a Jil 1.3w, and they both get pretty warm after a while (the Jil, less).

If you want to test the runtime, it's a good idea to either place it touching to some cool objects, or put it in room temperature water. the water dispenses the heat like charm. I do that with my PD and KL1 when I tested them for run time....
