I did a search for "TaskForce and got nuttin'.

Hopefully it hasn't been posted already.

I saw this a Lowes this week. They had multiple 5mm versions, but I was interested in this 1 Watter.

It's around $22.00 USD IIRC.
Anyone with experience with this?

I saw that at Lowes earlier this week. IIRC Task Force makes somewhat inexpensive tools and such. I have no experience with them, so I passed. The price seamed a bit high to me.

My brother bought one. It is his first LED. He loves it. He says it is MUCH brighter than his Mini M#g light. I of course had to check it out. It has very good throw and good sidespill. I was concerned because the package said it has a collimater, but the sidespill is fine. It is much brighter and whiter than my ARC LSHP. It is a very good buy in my opinion. Length is OK but it is a little bit big around. I am waiting to buy the similar Dorcy 3AAA 1 watt.

OK, I broke down and got one.
Decent light. With batteries, it has heft to it.
The construction seems good. The walls are pretty thick.
Threads are rough, but not difficult to open/close. Seems water-tight except when the button is pressed.
[ala Craig's suction test /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ]
Sucker is bright & white!
Brighter than my new Dorcy Metal Gear. [Mostly because it has a tighter spot than the Dorcy]
It's a bit shorter than the Dorcy, but thicker.
Here are some pix of it.

Sorry, no beam shots or size comparison shots as of yet.
In general, I like this light. It's a keeper for me.

This light looks neat! How does it compare to the Dorcy 3AAA 1 watt?

I've never seen a Lowe's in my area, has anyone seen this light elsewhere at other stores?

Were these located in the tools section. Lowes' flashlight section typically only has Maglite, Eveready and Coast.

thanks

I saw one of those at Lowes, too. I'm not a big fan of the currently popular 3AAA arrangement for driving Luxeons, and I generally prefer reflectors over optics. However, some people have reported good experiences with this light on this thread. The head-on view of the optic shows a lot of phosphor, which is a good sign for throw.

The $22 price may make it worth the risk for me. It's certainly a better deal than the $50 Luxeon flashlight that they were selling at Lowes recently.

$22 doesnt seem bad at all.

Danno: any chance of a side by side shot with the dorcy-aaa 1 watt?

Thanks
Jim

Sam's Club has two, yes two, 1 Watt Luxeon 3AAA flashlights for something like $28. They seem to pair up a good nice white beamer with a slightly yellowish dimmer Luxeon. With Sam's return policy, you can buy two packs, pick the nice white beamers and return the dimmers ones. Luxeon lottery no more? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

These lights are well made, have O-ring seals, except around clickie. I've put them through their paces and they put out about 1.5 hours of good unregulated light, then start to dim off. Not sure if they last 5 hours as advertisement claims, but I am sure after 5 hours, you'll get some light of those. I think you can use rechargeables, but I don't have any to try, so I am using included alkalines. Very nice setup for $28.

Hey Jim,

I'll try to do the pix tonight when I get home.
Oh, just tried something with the scanner here at work.

How's this?

PrimiToad,
They were located where the M@gs lites are. In our Lowes, that's near the checkout. Talk about impulse items!

Well,I bit. On my break today I hopped over to Lowes and bought one of those 1 watt TaskForce lights.

I really hate to say this, but I found it lacking compared to those two Dorcy lights I just bought. The price was really rather high considering that the light is not even as bright as my Metal Gear Dorcy.

The beam was rather weak and had a bluish tint.

Perhaps I'm spoiled (and lucky) with those two Dorcy purchases, but this TaskForce light is going back.

Maybe my copy was out of spec. Especially since ya'll have seemed to like them.

Is this the Dorcy? Yes, there's a board inside with only a resistor.

In regards to the TaskForce...
I opened up the TaskForce and couldn't get inside the head.
Don't have any snap-ring pliers. Looks like I could break the board easily if I don't have the right tool.

Here's another comparison shot w/a 9V battery for common size reference.

Here are some beamshots under various settings. White doors are approximately 5 feet away.
AAA batteries in the TaskForce and Dorcy are relatively fresh. The AAs in the Costco are new.

I think I got lucky w/this particular TaskForce.
