I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the KL1 can handle a 9 volt configuration such as a vital gear 3 cell body. Can anyone confirm this for me? This would also mean it could run safely on 2 R123's, right?

I tried the search but couldn't find the thread I thought I read.

I just thought of one more thing. On 3 cells the output is the same as two due to the regulation but runtime is extended. What does 2xR123 do to the runtime? Is it closer to the 2 or 3 cell specs?

Make sure you run protected R123 cells in it. Otherwise you may kill the cells due to over discharge. The KL1 offers no warning and especially with two R123, KL1 would discharge them to about 1.2 volt each before you notice something is wrong. This will certainly ruin the cells.

Also an even more dangerous situation could arise, if one of the cells becomes depleted to the point where the other cell starts to reverse charge it. It could have some very sinister ill effects like pressure build up and/or fire.
