Songs that won\'t stop playing in your head

I think we all have a song playing over and over in our head from time to time (or at least I do). Is there an actual word to describe this phenomenon? A friend of mine calls them "nerrs" (as in neurotic) but I can't remember ever seeing a word to describe this. Maybe we can all make one up and get it put in the dictionary /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

It might also be known as a "brain worm" if the song is particularly awful. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

There have been threads on this within the past year if you want to do a search.

A local college radio station used to play "back of the mind cuts" every morning. Sadists!

God help me, but the theme from Murder She Wrote. Then I just call in sick and plug into something . . . anything.

"Word Up" by Cameo 1986 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

I hate it and it sticks like flypaper. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Since 1971, all I can hear is:

I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.
I'd like to buy the world a Coke, and keep it company.
That's the real thing.

"Brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh."

A radio advert heard in New England. It has dogged me for years. The sad thing is my little daughter just learned to sing it.

Well, I'm constantly hearing music in my head...most of it are different variations of my own stuff...today for some reason it's been Rob Thomas' version of 3 a.m. (I'm not talking about Matchbox Twenty's 3 a.m. , it's the same song, just arranged differently)

I was at the 99¢ store about two hours ago, and they had the song "Sugar Pie Honey Buns" playing, and I've had it playing in my head since - approximately two hours now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
Just the first two lines, I can't remember the rest.

"Sugar pie honey buns,
You know that I love you
"

Ya mean this one? This was a reprise of the original 1971 Hilltop Singers spot but with their newer "Can't Beat the Feeling" theme woven into it. Aired during Super Bowl XXIV. A nice rendition of a classic theme.

Some of my all time favorite commercial jingles have been Coke ads. FYI, the guy who wrote "Can't Beat The Feeling" and was also the lead vocalis on it also wrote and sang the Chevy "Heartbeat of America" jingle. It seems that Coke's ad agency always had a knack for writing a song with a nice catchy pop hook to it.

Lots of other commercial nostalgia here ...

Currently it's the theme to Futurama. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleye11.gif

My brain may be wired different because I am nearly always playing some song in the mental background. The song will change every so often. It stops when watching TV or some other type of trance.
