This year marks the 100th anniversary of both Alberta and Saskatchewan
becoming provinces. (Before 1905 they were part of the North West Territories.)
This weekend is the big celebration.

In honor of the occasion I have decided to donate $100 CDN to the Katrina
relief raffle to help our CPF friends who don't have much to celebrate
this week.

I hope other Alberta and Saskatchewan CPFers can celebrate by sharing
their good fortune.

You do us proud and it's an honor to know you.

BTW, I see we also have photography in common. While my experience in shooting 3D is like zero, I did play with it about 3 years ago, but was kind of forced to abandon it. Neat stuff though. We'll have chat some time.
Happy 100th.

Wow thanks, greg_in_canada.

I grew up in Louisiana so New Orleans has a very special place in my heart. I should add that I have great empathy for what has happened to Mississippi as well.

I had no idea Saskatchewan and Alberta were so young.

Many years ago I caught a hotel shuttle bus to the airport in Corpus Christy, Texas. I began speaking with some of the passengers and soon all on board seemed very interested in what I was talking about. This was no surprise to me because I think I'm an incredibly engaging fellow.

I realized I was getting just short phrase answers to my questions and became a little suspicious. One of the passengers explained that they were all from Canada and had never heard my type of accent before. I didn't think I had much of an accent. Apparently my embarrassed laughter has an accent too. I didn't know that was possible. At any rate, they were a wonderful bunch of people and that is what much of my opinion of Canadians is based on.

Thank you for your kindness. I'm sure everyone on this board appreciates it.

Thanks Charley. If I didn't have 3 young children to take to the fireworks I
might be tempted to take some more 3d fireworks photos on Sunday night.
My wife is working nights (nurse) so she can't come.

CPF is the most generous place I've visited on the internet so even though $100
is a bit painful I think it is worth it.

Great story Jeff. Canada became a country in 1867 so Alberta and Saskatchewan
came 38 years later.

I was having after-work drinks with some friends and there was a student from Germany
along with them. He told of visiting Batoche (site of the Louis Riel Rebellion) and how
he was told that the church there was the oldest one in Saskatchewan. He joked
that in Germany there weren't any churches that young.

So compared to many places we are young at a mere 100.

Greg

(Thanks for the hug Raggie)
