This may have been addressed already. I am thinking of buying a ledcorp pr bulb for a 4D (normally krypton lantern) to get long run time for camping .ect.
Has anyone had any experience putting this bulb in a lantern ? How does it compare to a krypton bulb in a regular flashlight ? I read the review at the Led Museum so I have some kind of idea in the case of a flashlight. But there is no comparison shot that helps me out. The beam will not be focused but will be diffused thru a plastic diffuser. Any help or ideas would be appreciated........... Gasguy

Are you looking for something with very little output but long run time? If so this may be the answer. I would say it's output would be a fraction of the output of the Incan bulb.

If you are looking for similar output performance as the Krypton bulb but better color and run time, this may work:

There is a note about negative center contact lanterns on that page. However if your lantern indeed has a negative bulb center contact, most LED upgrades wont work.

I have used both the Dorcy 4D and 4AA focussing lanterns with no problems.

Most other lanterns I have come across are reverse polarity and will not work with "standard" LED bulbs You need to check polarity of your lantern before spending your money.

LEDcorp makes 2 kinds of bulbs - a 5mm and a luxeon side emitter.

The 5mm is rather dim but is adequate as a do not bump into the furniture nightlight. Nice little spot up to 30 feet when used in flashlight mode.

The luxeon is much brighter. I have problems focussing the beam in flashlight mode. A central spot, an outter ring with a black band in between. In area mode the vertical grooves in the diffuser is too wide. Major glare if I look at the Dorcy latern by accident. I do not have the problem with a Ray-O-Vac s-t-r-e-t-c-h adventure lantern/flashlight which has a finer diffusion pattern.
