Cree announces

Just thought you guys might like to know this.

Cree has announced breakthrough performance results achieved in development of Cree Lighting's standard white XLamp™ 7090 Power LED.

Not to sound negative, at least not more negative than usual :green: ... I have the impression that lately we see more and more "announcements" from a lot off LED manufacturers while the products we a re holding in our hands won't reflect those announcements at all ... for months and months now ...

I believe there is a thread already on this subject and I recall Newbie having further information.

What I find promising here is the break through is in terms of efficacy and not mere total flux! Although the K2 has reported higher flux in a single die, the power required to get you there is mostly spent in heat and it would seem that the efficacy or lumens/ watt is down in the toi toi. The LED's are expected to get better as well as brighter and any indication that the industry may be ahead of projections is welcome, IMHO. :thumbsup:
