I went to Stone Mountain with quite a few flashlights Wednesday and notice that my QIII was brighter than my Lux V. I new something was wrong and found later that my flashlights last battery near the spring was completly dead.

I am using 3 x 123's in the Flashlight with a DB1000. My questions are.
1. What would cause this last battery to be sucked dry and the other to still have some life?
2. What can I do to avoid this?

Sounds like you got stuck with one battery that had much less capacity then the other 2 you put in that flashlight. Were they all the same brand with the same manufacture date?

I'd check the voltage on the rest of the unused batteries from that box to see if there is any variation.
