at Walmart there is Nite Ize 3led drop in that's pretty bright. $5. Or you can go the luxeon route but that will cost you $50 or so.

My favorites are Sandwiches from The Sandwich Shoppe and The Opalec NewBeam. The Sandwich Shoppe also has the Kroll switch and glass lenses.

Here's a link to The Sandwich Shoppe.

I bought a Terralux Ministar LED from Ebay for around $35. It's not as cheap as some of the other LED replacements but its probably one of the brightest replacments for the Mini Mag you can get.(IMO).

I just bought one of the night-ize from wal-mart. I liked it enough to go back and buy 4 more. For the money it is hard to beat.

Terralux Ministar2 and Opalec

I've tried several of the Nite Ize drop ins and found them to
be fair and worth about 5 bucks. The light went out
on one and tailcap on the other. You get what you pay for.
The Terralux and Opalec are far superior in my opinion,
but then again your going to pay for the quality. My .02

Follow the "specials" link on my sig line and visit LED-replacement. They offer low prices on a variety of Mag LED replacements.

dat2zip's "sammies" are a very good investment too.

G'luck on your search, and welcome to CPF (althought you've been around for a couple of months now).

Widgnwhacker,

There are already tons of good suggestion, so I will just give my 2 cents in terms of performance.

Depending how much you like to spend, I'd strongly recommend a sammie from Shoppe (the Lux I RY0J MM lite) for around 30 as compared to the old Terralux TLE5 Ministar 2 (around the same price).

The new version of the TLE5 might worth a try since it is using the high dome, but personally, I like the tint color of Y0 and feel quite comfortable knowing that it is a tint that I like instead of doing a 'lottery' from TLE5.

As for less expensive options, from what I read, NiteIze is quite a steal at the current price level at Walmart. But Opalec do have a better feature of low battery warning at a hight price, but the regulation is great.

For more details about various other kind of mods for minimag, please do feel free to check out my humble writeup at Dummy Reference Guide to Minimag mod :)

You might also want to consider MJLED. It's an easy mod. Consider purchasing an extra reflector as you will need to enlarge the opening to accomodate the led. It's still available from Lighthound.

First, should consider the objective on use. If you want to use as a close up work and long runtime, you probably choose led drop in. And if you want plenty of light you should consider the luxeon III drop in with shorter run time than led bulb.

dat2zip's (Sandwich Shoppe) RYOJ Mad Max Lite is a great and cost effective mod. for your 2AA mini-mag. It is my favorite light.
