I'm in the mood to splurge (relative to my budget) and would welcome suggestions for a 2x123 light at the $160 level.

Parameters: unique yet quality machining from a small producer of lights in the US. Preferably production but a custom (if possible) would be welcomed.
40-60 lumen
Nice if regulated but so long as I get an hour of 75%+ high level output.
Switch, I'm not picky, clickie or twisty is fine...momentary operation desired.

TIA

The SureFire L4? Add a McE2S for two stage at around $165.

Who is a small producer?

Who is a small producer?

A smallish company that is producing small runs of lights not readily available in the mass market. Don't know if my budget allows for such or customization of a light.

In another thread I started, this was motivated by the Nightcutter made by Lightship Enterprises. While searching the net, I can find some sources but it seems to be limited. I did find an older BST link on a Google search from 11/04 for a M60L but those are no longer accessible...at least I don't know how to go back that far.

Thus began the hunt if there were similar companies like them that may have a 2x123 light. :)

For $20-$30 more you could pick up one of the Aleph series and that is from a non mass market producer, CPF's very own Mr. McGizmo. Very fine lights.

YEs the L4 with MCE2S cap is good too, I just got my tailcap in 30 ohms from Don and am now running on the 18650 cells that i picked up from AW and I like this light too. But i think I would go with the Aleph first if you can. Truly a custom light over a mass market light if that is what you are looking for.

You didn't mention if you want a multi-stage light or not. I second the recommendation for the Batterystation special 3W regulated Pelican M6. A good buy at $99 if you don't mind spending quite a bit less than your budget.

I was also looking for a 123A x 2 light and learned a great deal at this link at Doug's site:

I was interested in multi-stage so the EXPENSIVE Surefire U2 caught my eye. There is a very cool passaround you can still get in on as of this writing by a very generous anonymous CPFer. If you hunt around on the passaround section you'll find it.

I almost bought the Nuwai Q IIIs big brother, a light I'd still love to buy. Chinese or American, it doesn't matter to me. In fact, I shopped carefully and settled on a Chinese wife. She's a keeper, for sure. . . Nuwai is way under your budget, though. A steal at about $42 at Amondotech:

You can also move up to a 5W version for about $20 more for some serious blasting.

Since you mentioned smaller companies and unusual lights, you might consider taking a flyer on the light I just ordered, the VB-16. Waion is closing these out in the $40 range. For a little more, you can buy the same light in a numbered limited edition CPF version. They had been about $70 before. I can't wait until I receive it. Someone here said they sold their U2 since they found the 16 stage VB-16 brighter. Doug just gave it 4.5 stars. According to some of the user reviews here, and Cone's review in the UK, it's also a scorcher for its price range, 3490 Lux!!!!!, a few small quirks not withstanding. But even the U2 has its doughnut beam quirks that not everyone likes.

Cones has lots of great reviews of all kinds of less common lights, too, including some cool 123 x 2s.

Let us know what you ultimately decide. I may have been willing to pay up to $100 for the VB-16. It has the coolest way of switching brightness I've yet heard of. A rumored new version is on its way, too, but I didn't want to wait.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The Aleph sounds interesting...I've been mulling over the EDC as well. SOOOO many lights to confuse me.  :twothumbs

I'll hit the <search> button. :)
