Direct Drive Question for Nichia LED

A typical nichia and all other green/blue/white LEDs will draw their rated current at or about 3.4v. 2 alky batts 1.6veach would be 3.2v max. I have several lights with white LEDs in them on 2 regular batts drawing 10ish mA. Lithiums are different 1.7(ish) volts each (3.4v with 2).

but normal batteries are fine for DD, and wil run a LOONNGG time too.

It will only make some usable light if the batts are fresh. Run down batts the voltage will be too low without a boost circuit. It won't draw spec current either.

If you get Nichia CS leds (the new bright ones) then you'll have more light too. (old nichia BS looks dimly lit from my DMM on resistance mode, but a nichia CS is almost painfull to look at!)
