Hey guys!
Need a little help in identifying this blasted process.
Every now and then, my PC fan kicks in. Out of curiousity, I open Task Manager.
[I have Windows XP Pro SP2]

I ID most of the processes running. Then I come across this one: msxml3sms.exe.
Mem Usage is negligible. However, CPU Util avg 35. I kill the process.
I search Microsoft's, google's, McAfee's, and Symantec's websites. Nothing!
I search My Computer enabling system & hidden folders. Nothing!
I launch Spybot. It cleans some stuff but nothing related to this. [cookies and such]
My VirusScan is updated, and scans nothing.

It showed up again a couple days later. I searched the PC again while it was running. Nothing. Killed process.

Any ideas PC Gurus?

Danno

ps I even checked WinTasks Process Library. Not listed there, either.

You lucky dog, you seem to have
Microsoft XML Parser Version 3.0 Release (MSXML3)

I'd guess (just a guess) that the sm on the end is for service manager.

Look in your settyings for Microsoft XML Parser and you might find a way to get it to shut down when not in use.

Aha! Thanks GL!

I may have written down the filename incorrectly. That's why my searches on the internet were fruitless.

I had msxml3sms.exe instead of msxml3msms.exe. Now I find it online.
[Still don't find it on the PC. :( ]

Next time is shows up in Task Mgr, I'll verify the name.

Big Thanks, again, GL! Man that was fast!
