How to tell generation on Surefire KL1 with old style heat fins.

Went to a local store today and looked at a KL1 that they have had for at least the past six months. Its the only one in the store and I got to looking at it and wondering. It has the cooling fins and it also has the crenalated bezel. I know its not the first generation, but is it the second, or third? Thanks in advance.

I believe it would be impossible to tell 2nd from 3rd without turning the light on. Both would appear identical outwardly, as only the LED would be different (low dome in 2nd vs. high dome in 3rd). The low dome would have a smooth beam with color blotches; the high dome would have a bright round center spot with a little square around it, then a smooth round spill. The die wires would also be visible in the beam.

That clears that up then. I was hoping there was a way to tell without opening the package. I'll have to give it some more thought for now as I have other things I'm looking at for the moment.
