KL6 use on M4 body?

Hello!

Just a quick question . . .

I had a Surefire KL6 head that I put on my M4 body. It worked for a
few seconds then the beam "faded out" and the LED died. :sick2:

Surefire replaced my KL6 but I am a little hesitant on using the new one
on my M4 body. I know that SF shows the KL6 as the LED head for either
the M4 or M6 body. I'd like to use the head but I'm worried.

Any suggestions from the forum?

Why did the old one die?

Is it safe to use the new one?

Are there any "tests" that I can do?

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance! :thanks:

Very strange, i've run 5 or 6 sets of CR123s and countless Pila 168S cells through this setup with zero problems.

The KL6 contains a buck convertor which should handle 12 volts with ease. You werent using 3.7V rechargable 123s were you?

The only other thing that comes to mind is that the positive and negative contact springs somehow shorted with the power running. Its been posted that the KL6 has died under these conditions before.

Anyway, glad to hear Surefire looked after you.

Hello,

The KL6 was purchased in either December of 2003 or
January of 2004. I had purchased several L6's and hand-picked
the whitest and brightest beam. The other parts were sold and
traded to other CPF members.

Did the lights change over time? :huh2:

SureFire do evolve their products. I don't know of any specific changes.
However, I'd guess it was either a freak fault, or perhaps shorted like has been suggested.
