Is it true that the L2 hums on the low brightness setting?
While it is true that the SureFire L2 "hums" on the low setting, for me it isn't a big deal while to others they find it irritatingly annoying. It's hardly noticeable.—Now this particular light is fantastic. I have no regrets whatsoever with this buy.
You could try out McGizmo's McLuxIII-PD since it is two-stage setting. He can configure it for your particular use! I don't know how many lumens it is, but it definitely is plenty bright in the high setting and more than enough light output on low.
The other one you might want to check out is H22A's MiniMiniMiniMag with AW's 14270 rechargeables. Installed is the IMS 20mm reflector with UCL lens and the NG750 TW0J drop-in sandwich from the SandwicheShoppe. This little one puts out quite a light! It's only a single stage though. . .
Both of the McLuxIII-PD and the TripleMiniMag has excellent throw for it's diminutive size and decent spill while the SureFire L2 is more of a solid wall of light.
Hope you find what you're looking for and Enjoy!
