I recently purchased a Surefire L5 and noticed that the Luxeon 5W had something on the dome, like green bumps. Has anyone seen this before?

thanks for the pic... i'd contact Surefire

I contacted Surefire and they said it isn't normal, it might be sometype of epoxy or the material that the Luxeon is made from. I guess it's time to send yet another recent purchase back for repairs.

Do the 'bumps' affect the output?

The yellow/green bumps do cast a slight shadow on the beam on that side of the light but it's not easy to spot.

If they'll take it, send it back. It doesn't look especially well centered, either.

Just be sure to take some beam shots / light meter readings / mental notes about the tint, brightness, and size of the donut hole (or lack thereof). That way you know whether you need to cry when the replacement they send is greener / dimmer / hole-ier than the one you sent in for repair.

Good luck!
