MMQ finally meets it's match with the 100 watt, 120 volt, 2000 hour rated halogen. :p

Direct drive off of 2 "AW" 2200mah unprotected 18650 lithium ion batteries.
4.8 amps hot off the charger.
Settles down to 3-4 amps as the batteries wind down.
The leds do get quite dim before either battery gets too drained, unlike a hotwire bulb using these kind of batteries.
The protected AW 2200mah batteries only yield a flash of light at most.

1800mah unprotecteds from DAE are starting off at 4 amps, settling down to 2.5-3.3 amps as they wind down.
This light is proving to be a good way to test 18650's discharge strength. ;)

The heatsink is a spare b2eze that was predrilled and tapped for 3 stars.
I just simply arctic Alumina'ed 4 custom ground and fitted stars in there.
The head also had to be ground out a little to let the so20's sit right in on top of the stars perfectly.
4 so20's don't actually fit in a mag head without a little grinding of either the them and/or the mag head.

I had always wanted to build a light like this, but my wallet kept saying "NO!" :ironic:

...so, instead of spending all my money on one flashlight, I've spent it all on several :ohgeez: .

At any rate, you've built a beauty  .

We need to do another DFW get-together so that we can admire this beauty in person :)

I agree except this light is about to be shipped to it's new owner any day now. :(

But, I'll make another one soon enough. ;)

I once did a 3x5W (w-bin mods) - however even with a built in cpu fan it would still get really hot. I'd be surprised if 4 w-bins without a fan have enough heatsink area with the Mag Lite?
Did you ever try to run it for more then a couple of minutes?

Other then that - that's a really neat mod. Congratulations

I think it will be ok as long as it is used outside to play in the snow. ;)
This light will be too much fun when the 1st snowfall comes. :santa:
